Chris Ross alleges racial taunt triggered spat; Guiao denies accusation
Chris Ross apparently cited a racial slur as the trigger point to a shouting match between him and NLEX coach Yeng Guiao in their PBA Philippine Cup game at Cuneta Astrodome on Friday.
According to a report by Paul Lintag of ABS-CBN Sports, San Miguel Beer coach Leo Austria spoke to Ross, who told him that Guiao used the "n-word" on him.
"That’s the word na he don’t want to hear from any people," said Austria, whose team came away with a 109-98 win, the Beermen's 4th straight.
"I don’t know but that’s what he explained to me because I confronted Chris Ross. He’s one of the most important players in my team especially in the endgame but that’s the thing he don’t want to hear so nag-flare up yung bata so I cannot blame him."
The confrontation happened with 1:46 left in the game as NLEX guard Kevin Alas was taking his free throws. San Miguel was ahead 103-91 and on its way to wrapping up victory when TV cameras showed Ross jawing at Guiao in front of the NLEX bench.
