CSB was simply 'beaten up' by Lyceum, admits Tang
MANILA, Philippines – De La Salle-College of St. Benilde's (CSB) rookie coach, TY Tang, had a simple metaphor for what the Blazers suffered at the hands of Lyceum of the Philippines University in their NCAA Season 93 game on Tuesday.
"Para naming kinalaban si Mike Tyson, si Manny Pacquiao for 10 rounds," Tang said in the wake of his team's massive 98-55 defeat to the Pirates, their third consecutive setback of the tournament. "Every round, we just got beaten up."
"That's just the story of this team," he added.
The Blazers actually had a fine start, as they led 8-4 halfway through the first frame off a triple by rookie Unique Naboa, and trailed by just five points, 11-16, at the end of the opening quarter. Unfortunately for CSB, they collapsed completely in the second quarter, with Lyceum outscoring them 31-10.
Naboa was responsible for five of the Blazers' 10 points in the second period, but they had no answer for the Pirates who converted 50% of their field goals and scored 17 points off CSB's 10 turnovers.
"With our game plan, we tried to slow it down in the first quarter," said Tang. "It showed that we can; we were down by just five points."
