Ex-NBA guard Ty Lawson agrees to deal with Shandong in China
Former Sacramento Kings point guard Ty Lawson has agreed to a deal with the Shandong Golden Stars of the Chinese Basketball Association, team sources told ESPN, confirming multiple reports.
Lawson joins a Shandong team that includes center Donatas Motiejunas, who played for the New Orleans Pelicans this past season.
Lawson, 29, averaged 9.9 points and 4.8 assists per game last season in 69 games (24 starts).
Lawson's best years were with the Denver Nuggets, with whom he averaged 14.2 points and 6.6 assists over six seasons.
But he also got into trouble off the court while in Denver. Lawson was arrested in January 2015 on suspicion of drinking and driving. He pleaded guilty to one count of driving while impaired. Then, in July 2015, Lawson was arrested in Los Angeles for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.
The Nuggets traded Lawson to the Houston Rockets in July 2015. While with the Rockets, he was twice suspended by the league for the DUI arrests. After being released by Houston, he had a stop in Indiana before signing with Sacramento in August 2016 for $1.3 million.
