Murray Withdraws From Cincinnati
Andy Murray announced on Wednesday that he has been forced to withdraw from the Western & Southern Open due to an ongoing hip injury. The Scot is a two-time former champion in Cincinnati, the seventh ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournament of the season.
Murray, who has spent 40 weeks at No. 1 in the Emirates ATP Rankings, has not played competitively since losing to Sam Querrey in the Wimbledon quarter-finals on 12 July. Read & Watch Report
“Unfortunately, I won’t be playing in Cincinnati as I continue my recovery,” said Murray. “I always enjoy playing there, and I look forward to returning next year. I’m continuing to work hard on the court with the aim of being in New York.”
Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer, who are both in contention to replace Murray as the World No. 1, will lead the Cincinnati field next week.
