Coach insists Cignal the underdogs against Marinero
MANILA, Philippines – Cignal's lack of familiarity with Marinerong Pilipino makes the Hawkeyes the underdogs in their PBA D-League semifinals series against the Skippers – or so says coach Boyet Fernandez.
Fernandez watched on Tuesday at the Ynares Sports Center as Marinerong Pilipino completed an upset of the third-seeded Tanduay Rhum Masters to score the final semifinals spot in the Foundation Cup, where they will take on the second-seeded Hawkeyes in a best-of-3 series.
It was Marinero's seventh straight victory in the conference.
"I give credit to Marinero," Fernandez said. "They really stepped up their game before the end of the elimination."
Fernandez's team will have the benefit of a long rest, as they secured an automatic semifinals berth after finishing with the second seed in the eliminations while the Skippers had to go through the quarterfinals phase.
