Tanduay crushes Batangas, nears D-League playoff spot
ANILA, Philippines – Tanduay moved closer towards nabbing a playoff spot in the 2017 PBA D-League Foundation Cup after routing Batangas, 111-86, on Thursday at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
The victory allowed the Rhum Masters to improve to 5-2 and seize solo third place in the league standings.
Von Tambeling and Lester Alvarez caught fire in the third quarter, as they combined for 20 of Tanduay's 35 points to break the game open.
Tambeling finished with 28 points, five rebounds, and three steals, while Alvarez tallied 20 points, six rebounds, and six assists for Tanduay.
Paul Varilla contributed 18 points, seven rebounds, and three assists, while Jerwin Gaco had a double-double of 13 points and 11 boards.
"Alam namin 'yung implication at magiging impact niya sa standings," Tanduay coach Lawrence Chongson said of their victory. "We knew we had to dig deep and we needed to step up, and I'm glad that we got the job done."
