First stop of NCAA on Tour gets a thumbs up from San Sebastian coach

MANILA, Philippines – San Sebastian College head coach Egay Macaraya was quite pleased with how the first stop of the NCAA on Tour turned out, after his Golden Stags held off the Arellano University Chiefs on the road on Thursday.

Playing in front of a mostly hostile crowd at the Arellano Gym, the Golden Stags hacked out a 65-56 victory to improve to 1-1 in the NCAA Season 93 men's basketball tournament.

San Sebastian brought its own contingent of fans – bannered by three-time NCAA volleyball MVP Grethcel Soltones – but they were still outnumbered by the home crowd.

Nevertheless, Macaraya is proud of how the Golden Stags kept their composure in an emotional environment and secured their first win of the tournament.

"(I'm) very happy, yes. Hopefully, maraming home-and-away, NCAA on Tour," said Macaraya. "Maganda naman 'yung reception, maganda naman 'yung game."

The Arellano Gym, which has a 200-person seating capacity, was full, while several students settled on watching the game on a screen outside. Aside from the game itself, there were also activities ahead of the contest hosted by MOR DJs and an appearance by Harana.
