PH boxers train on as turmoil hits AIBA

Despite the leadership crisis over at the AIBA headquarters in Lausanne, the two-man Philippine team to the 19th world championships in Germany is on red alert in training.

As Dr. Ching Kuo Wu struggles to remain in power with his staunchest of critics declaring that the Taiwanese box chief is on the way out, light-flyweight Rogen Ladon and fly Dannel Maamo are advancing in their respective buildup for the Aug. 22-Sept. 3 slugfest in Hamburg, Germany.

“They continue to train in Baguio City,” said Association of Boxing Alliances of the Philippines executive director Ed Picson.

Ladon and Maamo are currently holed up with the six-man squad out to retain the overall crown in the 29th Southeast Asian Games in Malaysia also next month.

Even national coach Pat Gaspi insists the boxers are not skipping a single beat.

“Tuloy-tuloy sila sa ensayo,” said Gaspi.
