Hamed Hadadi led the victors with 20 points and 8 assists, whilst India were led by Amjyot Singh Gill's 10 points, as the only player in double figures.
In the same group, Jordan earned a close 68-66 victory over Syria.
Team Melli will play Syria on Friday and face Jordan on Sunday in Group A.
The FIBA Asia Cup 2017 is being held in Beirut, Lebanon from Aug. 8 to 20.
For the first time in history, the tournament features Oceania powerhouses Australia and New Zealand, as 16 teams battle for top honors in Asia.
Three-time champions Iran are in Group A, along with Jordan, Syria, and India. The remaining groups comprise the following teams: Iraq, China, Philippines, and Qatar (Group B); Kazakhstan, Lebanon, South Korea, and New Zealand (Group C); and Japan, Hong Kong, Chinese Taipei, and Australia (Group D).
The top three teams from each group will advance to the second phase.
