McGregor ‘might never fight again’ after boxing bout, says UFC head
After reports that Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s upcoming bout with Conor McGregor will be his last, UFC president Dana White discussed the possibility of the Irish superstar walking away from fighting as well.
With the mega fight set to take place next month at the T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nevada, United States, White lamented how the massive pay day could persuade the UFC lightweight champion to never fight again.
“I had a bunch of guys who worked for us in the UFC and made a bunch of money and they’re gone now,” the UFC executive told reporters during the MayMac press tour, as relayed by MMA Fighting.
“You just don’t know, if he’s going to come in and make this kind of money, he might never fight again,” he shared.
White’s claim, meanwhile, contradicts McGregor’s coach John Kavanagh, who said McGregor will return to the octagon sometime in December.
Whether or not the Irish sensation chooses to return to his roots after the biggest fight of his life, White said he’d accept whichever path Conor chooses.
“That’s part of the deal, you know?” he said. “This kid has done a lot for the sport, a lot for the company and this is the fight that he wanted, so we’re going to give it to him. And if this is the end of his career, then it is what it is.” Khristian Ibarrola/JB
