Adamson grabs first win at Power Smashers' expense
MANILA, Philippines – The Adamson University Lady Falcons leaned on a superb effort from rookie transferee Chiara Permentilla to tally their first victory in the 2017 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Open Conference on Wednesday at the FilOil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
Behind a 24-point performance from Permentilla, the Lady Falcons came away with a 25-20, 24-26, 25-19, 25-22 victory to improve to 1-2 in the conference.
The Power Smashers, meanwhile, dropped to 0-3 to tie University of the Philippines at the bottom of the league standings.
"In the last game, Chiara only got a little bit of playing time. She and May (Roque) battle it out in practice, so between them, it's whoever is hungriest that week, whoever we see really wanting to be in the starting six," said Adamson coach Airess Padda.
"This week, she had some good practices, so we gave her a chance, and she really performed well," she added. "I'm really proud of Chiara for stepping up."
After Adamson secured the opening frame, the Power Smashers equalized through a strong effort in the second set by skipper Jovelyn Prado, who scored the final two points of the frame to break a 24-all count.
