Australia open Day 2 with rout of overmatched Philippines

BENGALURU (FIBA Women's Asia Cup 2017) - The Australians established their supremacy early and often in their masterful rout of Philippines, 107-65, on Day 2 of the FIBA Women's Asia Cup 2017.

The Opals opened the encounter with an 8-0 scoring spurt and never looked back, showing Perlas Pilipinas that the quality of Division A play is much stronger than what the Southeast Asians are used to.

The only bright spot for coach Patrick Aquino's wards here is that the Philippines actually outscored the Opals in the second half, 42-39, but the outcome was decided well before then.

Sara Blicavs was all-around superb in this game, scoring 19 points, hauling down 8 rebounds and handing out 6 assists for Australia, which continued to lord it over Group B with a 2-0 record. The Philippines, who were paced by Janine Pontejos's 18 points, absorbed their second defeat in a row.

Perlas will try to give Korea a better challenge on Day 3, while the Aussies finish group play against defending champions Japan.
