Ricci Rivero makes surprise appearance at Gilas practice
MANILA, Philippines — De La Salle University star Ricci Rivero was an interested observer at the Meralco Gym as the Gilas Pilipinas pool returned to practice on Monday.
Rivero, whose athleticism and craftiness made him a fan favorite during the UAAP Season 80 tournament, was not included in the “23 for 23” players that head coach Chot Reyes bared last week.
But according to the national team head coach, Rivero was not snubbed. Instead, he was simply heeding La Salle’s request not to include its players as the team is undergoing a “reformation and transition” period.
Nevertheless, Rivero still showed up to Monday’s practice, though he merely sat on the sidelines and did not participate. Instead, the Mythical Team member was every bit the curious observer.
Rivero did not grant interviews but confirmed to reporters that he was just there to watch the national team practice.
