Heat Adds Firepower, Signs Fil-Am Michael Williams
The reclassification of David Arnold as a Heritage Import to a local player left the Heat with one vacant Heritage Import quota. With that quota, the Saigon Heat signed Filipino-American Michael Williams.
The 26-year old Williams, a 6’2″ guard from Cal State Fullerton, joins the Heat after stints in the NBA G-League with the Canton Charge. In his last season with the Charge, Williams avearaged 3.6 points, 1.6 rebounds and 2 assists in 14.4 minutes of action.
Williams has a reputation of being a high-level scorer ever since his days at the University of San Francisco where he spent his first three collegiate season. He eventually transferred to Cal State Fullerton for his senior year and was had an instant impact on the team, being named to the All-Conference First Team as well as being the Newcomer of the Year. Over 4 seasons in the NCAA, Williams averaged 12.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 1.8 assists.
Currently sporting a 1-2 record, the Heat are mixing things up in order to gain some traction in the ABL standings. Williams and the Heat will plunge into action on January 6, as they take on the Formosa Dreamers in the CIS Arena in Ho Chi Minh City.
