Eustaquio sees better chance in title tiff vs Akhmetov
MANILA -- Geje “Gravity” Eustaquio believes he has a better chance of beating former ONE flyweight king Kairat Akhmetov this time around.
Not only did they prepare well for the interim flyweight title clash, Eustaquio also feels the length of the bout will play a big factor in their rematch.
“Whatever we did in training for the first fight we doubled this time, because were not just fighting for three rounds but five,” Eustaquio said Monday in the final presser for ONE: Global Superheroes which takes place at the Mall of Asia Arena this Friday.
“We adapted a lot of things in wrestling, defense, offense. We also put more emphasis on accuracy. We have a better game plan this time and I think fighting five rounds would be an advantage for us.”
The two first fought back in September in Jakarta.
Eustaquio was able to daze Akhmetov with a couple of upkicks in the first round. The referee, however, temporarily halted the fight and inadvertently allowed the dazed Kazakh to recover.
