For second straight year, 'Big Ben' is UAAP MVP

MANILA, Philippines – For the second consecutive season, De La Salle University star Ben Mbala is the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the UAAP.

Mbala was the runaway leader in statistical points after playing in 12 of La Salle's 14 games, having missed their first two contests of Season 80 to compete for Cameroon in the FIBA Afro Basket.

"Big Ben" averaged a league-leading 26 points per game on top of 13.1 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game, in the process collecting 96.58 SPs at the end of the elimination round.

He was at his best on Sunday, when he led La Salle to a 79-76 win over Ateneo de Manila University to deny the Blue Eagles a sweep of the elimination round. In that game, he finished with 28 points, 19 rebounds, six steals, and six blocks.

A far second in the MVP race was Ateneo's Thirdy Ravena, who finished with 66.5 SPs after norming 14.4 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 3.3 assists for the top-seeded Blue Eagles.
