Ex-Blue Eagles Tolentino, Cani haunt Ateneo in UAAP Final 4

MANILA, Philippines – Far Eastern University (FEU) kept its season alive by stunning top-seeded Ateneo de Manila University on Sunday, and at the forefront of their charge was a pair of former Blue Eagles.

Hubert Cani and Arvin Tolentino, who both played for Ateneo before departing for FEU, both played solid games in the Tamaraws' 80-67 victory in their Final 4 match-up, which allowed them to force a do-or-die game on Wednesday for the last spot in the finals.

Tolentino did most of his damage in the first half, helping FEU set the tone before finishing with a total of 13 points. Cani, meanwhile, shone in the second half as he helped the Tamaraws fend off Ateneo's repeated attempts at a comeback.

It was Cani's booming, buzzer-beating three-pointer with 2:45 left that gave FEU its biggest lead, 75-58.

"During practices namin, alam na namin ang gagawin sa game," said Cani, who played for Ateneo in Season 78, when asked for the key to their win. "Ginawa lang namin 'yung pinapagawa ni Coach Olsen (Racela)."
