Ateneo vows to bounce back after shock loss to FEU

MANILA, Philippines – Ateneo de Manila University looked like a mere shadow of a team that had won 13 straight games on Sunday, as the Blue Eagles slumped to a shock 80-67 loss to Far Eastern University (FEU) in the UAAP Season 80 Final 4.

It was already the Blue Eagles' second consecutive defeat, following their slim setback to archrival De La Salle University in their final elimination round game.

The nature of this loss, however, was troublesome for Ateneo. They allowed the Tamaraws to shoot over 49% from the field, and were unable to puncture FEU's defensive blanket on the other. The Blue Eagles, the best offensive team in the elimination round, shot only 36.62% and hoisted 32 three-pointers in the game.

"I really can't explain what happened," said Thirdy Ravena, who had 17 points and six boards, but failed to register a single assist in the game. "We weren't ourselves."

The Blue Eagles were quick to commend FEU for playing well. "The game plan of FEU worked," noted Mike Nieto, who had his best game of the season with 13 points. "Pinatira nila kami sa three-points."
