Alapag as playing coach for Alab? Here’s what he’s got to say
MANILA -- Coach Jimmy Alapag admitted that it feels strange calling the shots from the sidelines while watching his team execute during his coaching debut for Alab Pilipinas in the ASEAN Basketball League (ABL) last Sunday.
He saw Alab fight courageously against Hong Kong Eastern, but also witnessed them lose, 92-89, to the defending champions.
“When you’ve played for so long, it’s like, it’s a much different perspective,” he told the league website.
“Because when you’re playing, you’re focused on making the shot or making the assist. But now when you’re coaching, you’re trying to put the pieces together to make it work with the five guys on the court.”
For coach Alapag, the game was a tale of two halves. He saw the Philippine team commit a lot of errors in the first half, then executed disciplined basketball in the second.
But committing 15 turnovers against a champion team can be costly and it showed during that game.
