UE's mantra: 'Habang may buhay, may pag-asa'
MANILA, Philippines – Very few expected University of the East (UE) to be in contention for a Final 4 spot at the start of UAAP Season 80, given the limitations of its roster.
But that is exactly where the Red Warriors find themselves midway through the second round of the men's basketball tournament. A 73-64 win over University of the Philippines (UP) on Sunday put UE's record at 3-7, with four games to go in their schedule.
"You know, habang may buhay, may pag-asa," UE coach Derrick Pumaren said when asked of their chances of ending a Final 4 drought that has lasted since Season 72.
"Until there is a fourth team that makes it, we still have a shot," he added.
The key, according to Pumaren, is to stay positive and keep playing as a unit, something that they did against the Fighting Maroons on Sunday at the FilOil Flying V Centre.
