SMB coach Austria a keen spectator in PBA Draft Combine

MANILA, Philippines — San Miguel head coach Leo Austria was an avid spectator on Monday when PBA rookie hopefuls engaged in scrimmages at the Gatorade Hoops Center for the Draft Combine.

Officially, Austria’s team does not own a pick in the 2017 PBA Rookie Draft, slated for October 29 at Robinson’s Magnolia.

But San Miguel, champions in this season’s All-Filipino and Commissioner’s Cups, is reportedly involved in a trade that would net them the No. 1 pick in the draft.

That pick is currently owned by KIA, but the Columbian Automakers Inc. franchise is reportedly willing to send it to San Miguel in exchange for a package of the Beermen’s third-stringers, a future first-round pick, and cash considerations.

The trade remains on the table, with the PBA Commissioner’s Office yet to approve or deny the transaction.
