San Beda ousts Perpetual Help from NCAA Final 4 race

MANILA, Philippines – San Beda College buckled down defensively in the end game to fend off University of Perpetual Help, 55-50, and stay within striking distance of the top spot in the NCAA Season 93 men's basketball tournament.

The defending champions Red Lions improved to 14-1 in the tournament, just half-a-game behind league-leading Lyceum of the Philippines University (15-0). Meanwhile, Perpetual's loss on Tuesday at the FilOil Flying V Centre meant that the Altas are now eliminated from the Final 4 race.

It was also San Beda's 13th win in a row since a loss to the Pirates in the first round, but coach Boyet Fernandez was far from satisfied with how they got it done.

"We're happy we got this win, but we have to go back and think about our priorities," said Fernandez. "We only had 11 assists, and that's too low for a San Beda basketball team."

"Our defense stepped up, but our offense is questionable," he noted. "We have to go back and review everything."
