Pumaren rues 'questionable' calls in loss to La Salle

MANILA, Philippines – Adamson coach Franz Pumaren was left to lament some "questionable" calls after his Soaring Falcons blew a chance to earn a share of second place in the UAAP Season 80 tournament against defending champion La Salle.

Adamson had an excellent opportunity to pull off an upset against La Salle, even leading by as much as 10 points in the second quarter. However, the Green Archers proved to be the steadier team down the stretch, and the defending champions pulled off an 80-74 win.

Thus, instead of tying La Salle at 7-3, the Falcons dropped to 6-4 while the Green Archers improved to 8-2. The defeat dealt a blow to Adamson's chances of competing for a twice-to-beat advantage in the semifinals.

"We made some mental mistakes and there was some confusion on the defensive rotation," said Pumaren. "But basically, it was a good game."

Still, it could have been better. Pumaren points out that there were certain instances in the closing stretch of the game wherein the Falcons were deprived of a chance to trim their deficit against the Green Archers.
