Pumaren admits: Adamson struggled against much-improved UE

MANILA, Philippines – When Adamson University defeated University of the East (UE) in the first round of the UAAP Season 80 tournament, it was in dominant fashion.

It was a wire-to-wire victory for the Falcons, who routed the Red Warriors, 79-60, behind a double-double from Papi Sarr.

Just a little over two weeks later, the Falcons faced the Red Warriors again, but this time, they found themselves in a dogfight. Adamson needed a tough defensive stand in the final frame to fend off the tough UE team, 66-60, for their sixth win of the season.

"We struggled," admitted Franz Pumaren, whose squad labored to stop UE's Alvin Pasaol in the first half of the game.

Pumaren further acknowledged that he was "kinda worried" heading into their game against the Red Warriors. UE started the season with six straight losses, but won back-to-back contests including a stunning 90-77 upset of National University (NU) to open the second round.
