Meralco emerges with win in wild Game 4 finish to tie series

Topsy-turvy finishes are par for the course in the budding finals rivalry between Barangay Ginebra and Meralco.

None had crazier elements than Game 4.

After a crazy finish to Game 4 on Friday, Meralco came away with a close win that leveled the best-of-7 series. Jonathan Cellona, ABS-CBN News
Allen Durham scored 28 points, including the go-ahead basket with 47 seconds remaining, as Meralco downed Barangay Ginebra 85-83 in the PBA Governors' Cup finals at Araneta Coliseum on Friday to tie the best-of-7 series.

The succeeding series of plays after the Durham tie-breaker weren’t for weak-nerved basketball fans.

After Ginebra missed two 3-point attempts, Baser Amer rifled an outlet pass to Jared Dillinger hoping to lock the win with a breakaway layup.

But Sol Mercado raced down court, met Dillinger in the air and rejected his shot, sending possession back to Ginebra.

About 13 seconds left and the clock ticking, Ginebra passed up on calling a timeout and amid the chaos just looked to get Justin Brownlee a shot.

Brownlee’s runner hit the front rim and his follow-up falling down didn’t hit iron, allowing Meralco to walk away with the pulsating win.
