Long way to go for still unbeaten Ateneo

MANILA, Philippines – There is no doubt that the Ateneo Blue Eagles have been very impressive in the UAAP Season 80 men's basketball tournament, compiling a perfect 8-0 win-loss record thanks to the most efficient offense and the stingiest defense in the league.

However, the Blue Eagles are well aware that they still have a long way to go in the tournament, and so they cannot afford to take their foot off the gas pedal even for a moment.

"We're not looking at our record right now," said Ateneo assistant coach Sandy Arespacochaga after the Blue Eagles routed a full-strength Adamson squad, 71- 59, on Saturday afternoon at the Araneta Coliseum.

This is something that Ateneo head coach Tab Baldwin has been adamant about, says Arespacochaga. Their spotless record should be the least of their concerns, especially with an entire round still to be played.

"Coach Tab wants us to focus on the next game, the current game that is in front of us, and not our record," Arespacochaga explained. "That's what's more important."
