La Salle's Mbala on track for another UAAP MVP award

MANILA, Philippines – De La Salle University's star center, Ben Mbala, is well on his way to repeating as the Most Valuable Player of the UAAP.

After the first round of the Season 80 men's basketball tournament, the Cameroonian big man has compiled tallied 98.0 statistical points thanks to averages of 30.4 points, 11.8 rebounds, 1.0 assists, 1.2 steals, and 2.0 blocks per game for the Green Archers.

Mbala has played only five games so far in Season 80, missing La Salle's first two games as he played for his nation in the Afro Basket. In his return, he has been completely dominant, resetting his career-high in scoring three times while unveiling a new weapon – his three-point shooting.

"Big Ben" is currently shooting 58.6% from the field, including 30% from beyond the arc.

Ateneo de Manila University's Thirdy Ravena is a far second, with 66.0 SPs for the undefeated Blue Eagles. Ravena is averaging 14.9 points, 8.9 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game.

Adamson University's Papi Sarr is third in the list with 65.167 SPs. The Falcons' slotman is averaging 12.7 points and 13.2 rebounds per game even as he recovers from a nagging groin injury that forced him to sit out their first game of the season.
