Ginebra demolishes TNT to open semis series
MANILA, Philippines – (UPDATED) Barangay Ginebra sent a strong statement in the first game of their PBA Governors' Cup semifinals series against the TNT KaTropa on Monday.
The Gin Kings used a balanced offensive effort and stifling defense to rout the KaTropa, 121-94, and take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-five semifinals series.
It was a spectacular performance for the defending Governors' Cup champions, who took a 20-point lead at the end of the third quarter, then went on to lead by as much as 34 points in the fourth period where both coaches opted to empty their benches.
"We basically got done what we wanted to do today," said Ginebra coach Tim Cone. "We got the ball inside, we got the ball down to Greg (Slaughter), Japeth (Aguilar), Joe (Devance), and Justin (Brownlee)."
"And we defended well, we defended aggressively," he added.
