FEU vents ire on hapless UST

MANILA – (UPDATED) Following a painful loss against defending champion De La Salle University the last time out, the Far Eastern University (FEU) Tamaraws showed no mercy in their next game on Sunday.

The Tamaraws vented their ire on a woefully undermanned University of Santo Tomas (UST) squad, 96-70, to hike their record to 5-4 in the UAAP Season 80 men's basketball tournament at the FilOil Flying V Centre.

FEU led by as much as 36 points against the Growling Tigers, who missed the services of big man Steve Akomo (illness) and standout guard Jordan Sta. Ana (shoulder injury) during the game. The two combined for 23.9 points and 15.4 rebounds per game this season.

With the massive setback, the Growling Tigers dropped to 0-9 in the tournament, and are on the brink of being eliminated from Final 4 contention. It is also their 13th straight loss since Season 79. The once-proud program has won only three games in the Boy Sablan era.

Meanwhile, the Tamaraws snapped a two-game slide, including a slim 73-75 setback to La Salle last week, to take hold of solo fourth place in the league standings.
