Ateneo re-asserts mastery over Adamson to remain unscathed
Ateneo de Manila University has the number of Adamson University in the 80th Season of the UAAP Men’s Basketball Tournament.
Imposing their will from start to finish, the Blue Eagles outclassed the Soaring Falcons anew, 71-59, on Saturday at the Araneta Colisuem.
With the 12-point win, Ateneo completes an elimination round sweep of Adamson. This, as an encore to their 85-65 win in the first round.
More than that, they keep their perfect record intact now at 8-0.
The game turned out to be a defensive battle early on, but the Katipunan-based squad was still able to nudge ahead, leading by seven, 31-24, at the half. “It was a defensive game. Adamson is a very good defensive team, but the third quarter was the pivotal cushion we needed,” coach Sandy Arespacochaga said.
Then the third quarter rolled along and Thirdy Ravena and Isaac Go merged for 13 points and, as a team, they outscored their opponents, 23-17.
