Arellano stuns San Sebastian to stay in NCAA Final 4 hunt

MANILA, Philippines – Arellano University secured what might be its most impressive victory in the NCAA Season 93 men's basketball tournament, as it took down San Sebastian College, 85-79, to stay afloat in the Final Four race on Tuesday at the FilOil Flying V Centre.

With main man Kent Salado on the bench in the final 8:22 of the game after suffering an apparent injury in his right leg, the Chiefs got contributions from virtually every player to fend off the Golden Stags' fightback in the fourth period.

Richard Abanes, Michael Canete, Levi dela Cruz and Zach Nicholls all came up with huge buckets, while Lervin Flores shut down the paint to power the Chiefs to their seventh victory against nine defeats.

The Golden Stags, meanwhile, lost for the third time in a row to also drop to 7-9. Both Arellano and San Sebastian are in a tight race along with Colegio de San Juan de Letran for the last spot in the Final 4.

"Minor adjustments lang on our end. Nung una I feel na our team doesnt really believe in team defense; akala nila pick and roll defense is just the work of two guys lang. Pero in the end nagtulong-tulong kami," said Arellano coach Jerry Codiñera.
