Star tops NLEX, advances to Governors' Cup semis
MANILA -- Star needed a strong fourth quarter to kick NLEX out of contention with an 89-77 win on Tuesday in the quarterfinals of the PBA Governors' Cup at Mall of Asia Arena.
The Hotshots, who went into the quarterfinals with a twice-to-beat advantage, were down 63-61 going into the payoff period. But they made a run for it in the homestretch, while holding the Road Warriors to just 14 points in the last 12 minutes.
Kristofer Acox was the spark for Star in the fourth, finishing the game with 21 points, 12 rebounds and 3 assists for the Hotshots. Also pitching in with the needed numbers were Paul Lee and Ian Sangalang.
Lee had 18 points, while Sangalang registered 14.
Prior to beating NLEX on Tuesday, they also beat the same team just two days prior.
“It's very hard for us kasi it's our third game in five days. Pero dahil sa willingness namin to go to the next level, nagawa namin,” Star coach Chito Victolero said.
