Pogoy, Jalalon chasing Wright in PBA Rookie of the Year race
MANILA, Philippines – TNT's Roger Pogoy and Star guard Jiovani Jalalon are in pursuit of Phoenix's Matthew Wright in the PBA Rookie of the Year race.
Wright's dominant campaign in the Philippine Cup allowed him to build a big lead over the rest of the first-year players, but Pogoy and Jalalon have closed the gap.
The Phoenix guard currently has an average of 26.07 SPs, with Pogoy (23.06 SPs) and Jalalon (21.59 SPs) not that far behind.
Pogoy and Jalalon can further trim the deficit if their teams make deep runs in the season-ending Governors' Cup. Wright and the Fuel Masters failed to make it to the playoffs, dealing a blow to his candidacy.
Ginebra's Kevin Ferrer (15.83 SPs) and Reden Celda of KIA (13.99 SPs) round out the top five.
