NCAA Final 4 is just the first step for still unbeaten Lyceum
MANILA, Philippines – The Lyceum of the Philippines University Pirates added another chapter to what has already been a historic season on Thursday, as they became the first team in the league to clinch a Final 4 spot in the NCAA Season 93 tournament.
A 94-83 victory over University of Perpetual Help not only extended the Pirates' perfect run to 13 games, but also propelled them to the NCAA semifinals for the first time since they joined the league in 2011.
It is a truly remarkable turnaround for the Pirates, which managed only six wins in Season 92, good for ninth place in the league. The low point of their campaign came in their final game, when they surrendered to De La Salle-College of St. Benilde for the Blazers' lone win of the season.
"It's a blessing," said Lyceum coach Topex Robinson of their improvement from Season 92.
Robinson acknowledged that the Pirates entered unchartered territory when they clinched a Final 4 berth. "It's really something that we're not accustomed to," he said.
