Lariba to inspire La Salle athletes in Season 80

MANILA, Philippines – Table tennis star Ian Lariba's ongoing fight against acute myeloid leukemia will be a source of inspiration for the athletes of De La Salle University as they open their campaign in the 80th season of the UAAP.

This, according to La Salle athletic director Emmanuel Calanog.

Lariba, who was unbeaten in her five seasons in La Salle and competed in the 2016 Rio Olympics, was diagnosed with the disease in May, and local athletes have since rallied around her. La Salle continues to raise funds for Lariba, while organizations like the Philippine Sports Commission and the Philippine Superliga have contributed as well.

"She has finished the required series of chemotherapy for her to be ready for the bone marrow transplant," Calanog told ABS-CBN News on Monday, at the sidelines of the UAAP's press conference ahead of Season 80 at the Mall of Asia Arena.

"They're preparing her for that, and ang kanyang donor is her (younger) sister," he added.
