Austin looks forward to potential match-up with Blatche
MANILA, Philippines – A potential showdown against Andray Blatche in the 2017 FIBA Asia Champions Cup does not in any way faze Isaiah Austin, who may just follow the big man's footsteps as the Philippines' next naturalized center.
Blatche is tipped to lead China Kashgar in the FIBA Asia Champions Cup, while Austin will be one of the players to watch for the Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas team that will compete in the tournament in Chenzhou, China starting on September 22.
Chooks and China Kashgar are in different groups in the preliminaries, but a meeting in the quarterfinals or even in the semis is not out of the question.
"I haven't played with Andray Blatche, but you know, I've seen a lot of his games, I know his style of play," said Austin, whose performance in the FIBA ACC will be closely monitored by stakeholders of Philippine basketball.
"He's a very crafty player, a very good post player," added Austin, who said he can learn plenty from Blatche, a former NBA veteran who has since made a name for himself in the Chinese Basketball Association as well as with Gilas Pilipinas.
