Ancajas camp welcomes all-Pinoy title clash with Sultan
MANILA -- The camp of world boxing champion Jerwin Ancajas has no problem with having an all-Filipino title bout against Jonas Sultan, who recently sprang a surprise against former two-division champion Johnriel Casimero.
Sultan scored his 14th career victory by forcing Casimero to the defensive and securing the title shot via a unanimous decision last Saturday.
“Masipag si Jonas, kaya deserving naman siyang manalo,” Ancajas’s head trainer Joven Jimenez said. “Kahit sino naman sa kanilang dalawa makalaban e nakahanda naman kami.”
With the victory, Sultan became the mandatory challenger for Ancajas’s IBF junior bantamweight title.
Jimenez said having an all-Filipino bout for the IBF title is inevitable since there are quite a number of Filipino boxers climbing the 115-pound rankings.
