Unbeaten SMB, Star duel tonite

MANILA, Philippines - After hurdling TNT KaTropa Wednesday, grand slam-seeking San Miguel Beer takes on another Commissioner’s Cup playoffs rival in Star with both teams staking 2-0 slates in the PBA Governors Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum tonight.

Alaska Milk welcomes the return of Calvin Abueva as the Aces tangle with the Texters at 4:15 p.m. before the Beermen and the Hotshots clash at 7 p.m. in an early rematch of their second conference semis showdown.

The Hotshots, with monstrous import Ricardo Ratliffe, gave the Beermen a fit before yielding to the eventual Commissioner’s Cup champs.

Paul Lee, Allein Maliksi, Mark Barroca and their teammates look to get back at the Beermen and stall their grand slam drive with Malcolm Hill in tow.

Hill, a former Illinois U standout subbing for Cinmeon Bowers, made good impression in his PBA debut, delivering in the crunch as Star crushed Alaska Milk, 101-92.

The 6-foot-5 swingman scored 12 of his 28 points in the fourth quarter – all in crucial situations – as he lived up to expectation and helped the Hotshots to a second straight win in the season-ending tourney.
