Tough road ahead for Pinoy bets at Hamburg world championships
Two Filipino boxers will be up against a tough field in Germany, where the world's best fighters will compete in the AIBA world championships starting Friday.
Olympian Rogen Ladon and Daniel Maamo will represent the Philippines in Hamburg, where about 280 of the top international fighters are set to converge in the biennial event organized by boxing's world governing body.
Ladon, who copped a bronze in the 2015 world championships, will battle in the light-flyweight division while Maamo will trade mitts in the flyweight class.
For fight analyst Dennis Principe, the Hamburg tournament will be a chance for Ladon to make up for his sorry performance at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics.
“One of the steps Ladon needs to recover from that debacle in the Olympics is to perform creditably dito sa world championships,” Principe said.
