Singapore Slingers, Alab Pilipinas to Rekindle Rivalry in Merlion Cup
The Singapore Slingers and Alab Pilipinas clashed in several classic duels in the ASEAN Basketball League last season and faced each other again in the ABL playoffs. They will not have to wait too long for an opportunity to match up again as they will be playing in this year’s Merlion Cup.
The marquee international basketball tournament in Singapore will be returning for a second consecutive year after a successful tournament last year. The Shanghai Sharks from China won the title over Mighty Sports from the Philippines in exciting fashion that went down to the very last second.
The Sharks will be returning this year, along with the hosts and ABL Finalists, Singapore Slingers. The hometown squad finished in 4th place last year after a close loss to the Seoul Samsung Thunder.
Aside from the Slingers, Alab Pilipinas, and the Shanghai Sharks, the remaining cast of teams included the Taiwanese SBL runner-ups Yulon Lexgen Dinos, Jeonju KCC Egis from the KBL, and the Australian NBL’s regular season champions Adelaide 36ers.
The Merlion Cup will be help from 20-24 September at the OCBC Arena, Singapore.
