Pinoy archer Paul dela Cruz takes home first SEA Games individual bronze
Filipino archer Paul dela Cruz edged Zulfadhli Ruslan of host Malaysia, 10-9, in a shoot-off to secure the bronze in men’s individual archery compound in the Southeast Asian Games on Wednesday.
After 50 arrows, the two archers were tied at 144 at Synthetic Turf Field inside the KL Sports City in Bukit Jalil.
The loss by Ruslan, a silver medalist in the 2015 SEA Games, paved the way for Dela Cruz’s first Games individual bronze.
Meanwhile, archer Amaya Paz-Cojuangco, a 2-time women’s individual compound SEA Games champion, failed to get out of the quarterfinals.
In water polo, the Philippines lost 8-7 to Malaysia at Bukit Jalil National Aquatic Centre, following its opening-day win against Thailand.
