Meralco turns back Phoenix for share of 2nd
Meralco held off Phoenix in the fourth quarter to squeeze out a difficult 107-104 win in the PBA Governors' Cup at Araneta Coliseum on Friday.
Garvo Lanete scored 27 points, including 6 three-point shots, to go with his 2 steals.
He also scored the free throws that assured the Bolts' victory late in the game despite the absence of injured Cliff Hodge and Gilas players Baser Amer and Mike Tolomia, who are both in Kuala Lumpur for the Southeast Asian Games.
Meralco import Allen Durham fired 33 points to go with his 16 rebounds to offset Brandon Brown's 38-point, 9-rebound performance for the Fuel Masters.
“It's just an incredible effort from my guys tonight. They had to deal with a lot of adversity in this game. The fact that Cliff Hodge is still out, one of our best defensive players, the result is that our defense is not as strong as it has been,” said Meralco coach Norman Black.
