McLaren aims to personify Pinoy warrior's heart in cage return

MANILA, Philippines – "Who is Reece McLaren?"

That was the question of the night during ONE: Spirit of Champions fight week, all the way back in December 2015, when he surfaced as Jordan Lucas' late replacement to face off against Fil-Am Mark "Mugen" Striegl.

Striegl was supposed to have an easy night against the relatively unknown Australian fighter, who entered the high-profile bout on only eight days' notice.

McLaren, however, pulled off a shocker as he introduced himself to everyone at the Mall of Asia Arena, including Striegl. He submitted the favored Fil-Am through a rear naked-choke in the co-main event, but only after overcoming a series of takedowns and a second-round knockdown.

As his opponent appeared to lose steam in the final round, McLaren countered a weary takedown with solid elbows, before advancing to Striegl's back to latch on the bout-ending choke at the 3:33 mark of the third frame.
