Centeno, Amit nearing 1-2 finish in women's 9-ball singles
KUALA LUMPUR — Prized Filipina billiards players Chezka Centeno and Rubilen Amit moved closer toward a potential 1-2 finish, as they reached the semifinals of women's 9-ball singles in the Southeast Asian Games at KL Convention Center here.
Centeno and Amit crushed their respective foes to move a win shy of booking an all-Filipina finals on Saturday.
After drawing a bye in the first round by virtue of her gold-medal finish in the 2015 SEA Games, Centeno toppled Angeli Ticoalu of Indonesia, 7-4, to march to the semifinals.
Two-time world 10-ball queen Amit bested Indonesia’s Silviana Lu, 7-3, to avenge the unexpected setback of Francisco dela Cruz in the men’s English singles and Jeffrey Roda in the quarterfinals of the men’s snookers singles.
“Gagawin namin ang lahat para makuha ulit ang gold at silver medal para sa Pilipinas,” Centeno said.
