After letdown in KL, Perlas turns focus to 2019 SEA Games at home
KUALA LUMPUR — The Philippine women's basketball team can head home with its heads held high despite failing to meet expectations in the Southeast Asian Games here.
Perlas Pilipinas was upbeat about its chances of finally earning the Philippines' first gold medal in women's basketball, but a brutal schedule combined with poor shooting and some unlucky breaks doomed its chances.
The Filipinas still ended their campaign on a winning note with a 118-44 demolition of Vietnam on Friday morning, but are still likely to wind up missing out on the podium for the second consecutive SEA Games.
"Good exit, good game," Perlas coach Patrick Aquino said. "I'm still proud of the girls for not letting up, and finishing it with a bang."
"Sabi ko nga, let's finish this with a bang, and we did it. Happy lang ako na nanalo tayo," he added.
