Add Olympian Freddie Webb to growing number of Terrence Romeo fans

If there's one thing Freddie Webb likes most about Gilas Pilipinas and its stint in the FIBA Asia Cup, it is the national players' willingness to make sacrifices.

Webb, a former senator and member of the Philippines' 1972 Olympic basketball team, said it's natural for players to want more minutes and play a starter's role, especially with the caliber of stars on head coach Chot Reyes' team.

But such individual aspirations, Webb believes, don't exist in Gilas.

"There are certain on people on this team that you can call role players that are really giving their best to become a member of the first five," Webb said in an interview with ABS-CBN News on Saturday.

"As a player, your vision, your mind is set on making the top 5, but I think the guys know very well what is more important than making the names in the scorecards. The most important thing is to win games."

Because players have embraced the roles given them, Gilas was able to overcome China.
