San Sebastian bounces back, stuns Arellano

MANILA, Philippines – San Sebastian College leaned on clutch hits from Renzo Navarro and RK Ilagan to fend off Arellano University, 65-56, at the Arellano Gym in Legarda, Manila on Thursday.

The impressive victory allowed the Stags to recover from their opening day loss to defending champion San Beda College, and improve to 1-1 in the NCAA Season 93 men's basketball tournament.

Meanwhile, the glow from Arellano's opening day win over Mapua University faded rather quickly as the Chiefs got off to a slow start and were unable to complete the comeback despite playing in front of their fans on their own court for the first seniors game of the NCAA on Tour.

"We're doing the right thing. Na-limit namin ang Arellano to 56 points, and I guess that's our target every time kasi doon lang naman kamin nananalo – sa defense lang talaga," said San Sebastian coach Egay Macaraya after their victory.

"Everybody stepped up, nagpakahirap talaga. Give credit to the boys, they played very well," he added.

Michael Calisaan got off to a fast start and bucked foul trouble in the middle quarters to end up with 12 points and 13 rebounds, while Allyn Bulanadi and JM Calma each scored 10 for San Sebastian. Guards Ilagan and Navarro combined for 14 points.
