Radwanska races into round 2 over Jankovic
LONDON, Great Britain - Agnieszka Radwanska overcame a tough opening set against Jelena Jankovic but wrapped up her match in two sets to move into the second round of Wimbledon.
The 2012 finalist needed a tiebreaker to edge through in the close first set before taking the second to love to win 7-6(3), 6-0 after an hour and 25 minutes.
The pair stayed on serve with only a single break chance created between the two of them during the first eight games of the match. Jankovic twice found herself serving within two point of taking the opening set – once at 5-4 and later again at 6-5 – but Radwanska kept breaking straight back to hang in the contest.
After raising her level to take the set in a tiebreak, it was all Radwanska as the Polish player snatched up the next six games to close out the match.
The No.9 seed will go on to face the winner between Britain’s Katie Boulter and United States’ Christina McHale.
