Perlas' Bersola gets nod as PVL's Player of the Week
MANILA, Philippines – BanKo-Perlas middle blocker Kathy Bersola earned the distinction of being the second Philips Gold-PVL Press Corps Player of the Week in the ongoing Open Conference.
Bersola opened the week with a 14-point effort, including five blocks, in the Spikers' 30-28, 21-25, 25-21, 25-18 victory over her alma mater, the University of the Philippines.
She then fired a career-high 24 points as BanKo-Perlas overhauled a two-set deficit to stun Bali Pure in a 24-26, 13-25, 25-13, 25-22, 15-11 thriller.
The two victories catapulted BanKo-Perlas to solo fourth place with a 3-3 win-loss record, keeping them on track for a semifinals appearance.
"Binigay lang talaga sa akin ng teammates ko 'yung pagkakataon na maka-score," said Bersola after her career-best effort, which was built on 20 attacks and four kill blocks.
"Siguro, I took advantage na din sa mga ginagawa ng kalaban," she added. "We needed this win, so everybody had to their part. I just tried to do my best."
