PBA Governors’ Cup schedule to be revisited

The updated 2017 PBA Governor’s Cup schedule drew some complaints, particularly from teams who would be forced to play the majority of their games without their key players lent to the national squad.

Among the teams who would be severely affected include the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters. They have three players seeing action for Gilas Pilipinas. These are Gabe Norwood and Raymond Almazan who will play at the FIBA Asia 2017 and rookie guard Mike Tolomia who will suit up in the SEA Games. It turns out that they will also have the most number of games without these key players.

On the other hand, teams like Governors’ Cup defending champion Barangay Ginebra San Miguel, the grand slam-seeking San Miguel Beermen, Star Hotshots and Alaska Aces will hardly miss their key players. This is because they won’t be playing any game during the period that Gilas Pilipinas would e competing out of the country.

After GlobalPort Batang Pier’s win over the Phoenix Fuel Masters, coach Franz Pumaren was pretty vocal on the released schedule and revealed that it will be revisited by the PBA Board of Directors.

“If I’m not mistaken, there is going to be a board meeting and they are going to balance it out and make sure that teams giving up their players for the Gilas will be missing maximum of two games. So it is going to be even for everybody,” said Pumaren.

GlobalPort will also miss the services of Terrence Romeo for three games. He will be part of the Gilas Pilipinas quintet at for the FIBA Asia 2017 wars in Beirut, Lebanon.
